Tammy Watson figures
out the importance of having a job, and makes a new friend as well. |
| Tammy
Watson was rushing down the stairs of her house hoping that she
wouldn’t be late for her first day on the job.
“Bye mom, Bye dad,” she hollered.
“Bye Tammy, have a good day.
Listen to your boss and he’ll listen to you,“ Tammy’s mom
said.
Oy! Tammy thought, like I’m not going to
listen to him? Tammy ran down the street as fast as she could.
Oh, Man!
She thought.
I am definitely going to get fired if I am late the first day.
Soon enough, Tammy was standing in front of Mr. Frosty Cone,
an ice cream shop.
Tammy looked at her watch.
“Good,” she said, “It is only 3:04 I’m not going to be
late after all.
She walked into the building casually.
Her big brother, Charlie, told her that she shouldn’t try so
hard to be a boss’s pet.
Then they will give you more work.
Her boss walked up to Tammy.
“Tammy, you’re late! Look at what time it is,” he told her.
“I am so sorry,” Tammy apologized.
This was really not a good start on her first day at Mr. Frosty
Cone.
As Danny walked away, he said to Tammy, “This is Karen, she
will show you the ropes.” Danny pointed to a girl chewing bubble gum.
“You must be Tammy,” she said, “I’m Karen.” Tammy and
Karen really hit it off.
Tammy caught on easily on how to take ice cream orders, working
the cash register, and how to make a banana split and a sundae.
Tammy even learned how to tell the difference between cookies and
cream and chocolate chip cookie dough flavors.
The worst part of the job was they had to wear these silly hats
that were supposed to be upside-down waffle cones.
What seemed to be thirty minutes was five hours! Tammy’s
shift was over and she got her first paycheck: $25.00, five dollars for
every hour.
When she got home, her mom and dad were waiting for her.
“So, how’s my little ice cream girl? Did it turn out to be
the worst job in the world?” Tammy’s dad asked.
“No,” Tammy said, “It turned out to be the best job I ever
had.” |
